Numeracy

1SL went on a Sound Walk today, we had lots of really careful listeners in Mrs Qadir’s group.  We collected lots of data to use in maths work this week.

A really useful maths tool for Year 1 children is a number line. As seen below in 1HS the pupils are using it to estimate a number of objects and match this amount to the number line.
Counting counters!
They can also be used for adding and subtracting by ‘jumping on or back’ along the line.
Please ask your class teacher for one to help your child at home.

In Year 1 we have been having all sorts of fun in Numeracy. We have been learning how to use a metre stick and finding the lengths and widths of objects around the school. Here are some photos of us throwing beanbags as far as we can and measuring the distance. How far can you throw a beanbag?

We have also been trying to use directional language. We had to guide our friends around mazes only using words to help them. Take a look…

We have been partitioning numbers this week in Numeracy. We bundled the straws into tens and used the rest as ones.
We made these amounts below, can you count how many there are?
