1KJ class assembly on Thursday 11th February at 9.10am in the main hall. Here’s a clue….

We're not going anywhere!

Last week Year 1 all went to the playground in the Park to investigate Push and Pull.  We found out that some things you push, some things you pull and some things you do BOTH! If you want to see how much fun we had just look at this photo.(There are lots more photos in all of the classrooms)

Chinese New year is the year of the tiger which will take place on Sunday 14th Februaury. The day starts off at 11:00am when the traditional market opens up in Chinatown and celebrations continue on into early evening around 7:00pm. Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of all the traditional Chinese holidays and Manchester is proud to host these celebrations.

Let your class know if you go and see the fun.

1SL went on a Sound Walk today, we had lots of really careful listeners in Mrs Qadir’s group.  We collected lots of data to use in maths work this week.

A reminder to all parents and carers that 1SL’s assembly will be on Thursday 21st January in the main hall at 9.10am.

The children and teachers all look forward to seeing you there.

We’ve been building up to Christmas in 1KJ, take a peek…

A really useful maths tool for Year 1 children is a number line. As seen below in 1HS the pupils are using it to estimate a number of objects and match this amount to the number line.
Counting counters!
They can also be used for adding and subtracting by ‘jumping on or back’ along the line.
Please ask your class teacher for one to help your child at home.

This half term in Year 1 we are answering the Big Question ‘Are you afraid of the dark?’ We have been looking at how people celebrate using light and dark.
We had a firework display in the park and look how we are turning this into a dance.
Swirling Catherine wheels Shooting rockets
Look at Kai in the ‘light and dark’ investigation area.
Can you see the shiny objects?

It has been a busy start to the Autumn term this year. Take a look at what we’ve been doing so far…
